Affiliate Disclosure & Disclaimer

An honest explanation of the financial structure behind this publication and how editorial independence is maintained.

This page exists because I think affiliate disclosure deserves more than a sentence in a footer. The relationship between editorial independence and commercial sustainability in publishing is genuinely complicated, and I want to be transparent about how I navigate it on this site.

The Honest Version of How This Works

Some of the links on this site are affiliate links. When you click through to a tool vendor and subscribe or purchase, I may receive a commission payment from that vendor. The commission comes from the vendor's marketing budget — it does not add any cost to what you pay.

This is a standard and legal practice across internet publishing. I am disclosing it here not because I am required to (though I am), but because I think readers deserve a clear explanation of the financial structure behind the content they are reading.

What the Affiliate Relationship Means in Practice

The structural risk of affiliate publishing is real: a publisher who earns more when readers buy Tool A than Tool B has an incentive — even an unconscious one — to recommend Tool A more enthusiastically than the evidence supports. I am not exempt from this risk, and I think pretending otherwise would be dishonest.

Here is what I do to manage it:

  • I do not rank tools based on commission rates. Tools with high affiliate commissions do not rank higher than tools with lower commissions or no affiliate programs at all. I have given unfavorable assessments to tools that pay commissions and recommended tools that pay nothing.
  • I include alternatives that do not pay commissions. Every review includes a comparison table with alternatives, some of which have no affiliate relationship with this site. If the non-affiliate option is better for your situation, I say so.
  • I include critical assessments and limitations. If a tool has a meaningful limitation, accuracy problem, or compliance consideration that a potential user should know, I include it in the review regardless of whether it might discourage a purchase and therefore a commission.
  • I test tools before reviewing them. I do not write reviews based solely on vendor materials or without meaningful hands-on evaluation.
"The test I apply: would this review read the same if there were no affiliate relationship? If the honest answer is no, the review needs rewriting."

Where This Gets Complicated

I will be honest about one area where the affiliate structure creates a tension I have not fully resolved: topic selection. Tools with no affiliate programs and no meaningful commercial ecosystem around them receive less review priority than tools with active affiliate programs — not because I actively deprioritize them, but because there is simply less financial incentive to invest the review time in them.

This means there are probably good tools this site has not reviewed, and the gap may correlate with whether those tools have affiliate programs. I try to counteract this by responding to reader requests and covering tools based on their relevance to the professional communities I write for — but the structural incentive exists and it is worth naming.

Google AdSense

This site displays advertisements through Google AdSense. These advertisements are algorithmically served by Google based on page content and, where permitted, your browsing history. I do not select which specific ads appear. Ad revenue helps fund the independent testing and review process that makes this site possible.

Advertisements are visually distinguished from editorial content. If you ever see what appears to be an ad presented as editorial content, please contact me — that would be a problem I would want to fix immediately.

No Paid Placements or Sponsored Rankings

Tool vendors cannot pay to rank higher on this site, to receive positive review coverage, or to have negative information omitted from their review. I do not accept payment for editorial coverage in any form. The distinction between advertising (AdSense) and editorial content is maintained completely.

Professional Advice Disclaimer

Reviews and comparisons of AI tools for healthcare, legal, financial, and other professional contexts are provided for informational purposes only. They do not constitute professional advice in any regulated sense. Healthcare providers should assess AI tools against their specific compliance obligations. Attorneys should evaluate AI tools against their bar's professional responsibility rules. Financial professionals should assess tools against their regulatory requirements. No review on this site substitutes for that professional assessment.

If you have a question about a specific affiliate relationship or want to know whether a particular tool review involves an affiliate link, contact me directly. I will tell you straightforwardly.
